Step 1– Need to get Zoning and Land Use Permits and License. Dodge County Land Resources and Parks Department will need to be contacted to apply for Conditional Use Permits and/ or Zoning Requests. This is if you wish to do additions to structures (additions to home) / put up a barn/ put up a shed/ building a new home ect….

Step 2. Town of Shields Requires a permit from the Town of Shields Contracted Building Inspector. Town of Shields contracted Building Inspector is: Wisconsin Inspection Agency, LLC .

Who Needs A Town Of Shields Permit from John or Tom?
● All new one and two family dwellings
● All residential building additions or remodels/alterations valued at $50,000 or greater. (Smaller projects would NOT need a permit, small decks, porches, remodels, additions, Etc. would be exempt)
● All residential accessory structures larger than 1,000 sq. ft. (total floor area)
· No Building Permits for Ag “USE” Buildings per the WI definition under administrative code.
● All New Commercial/Industrial/Multifamily projects under WI SPS 361-366 Commercial Building Code
● All Commercial/Industrial building additions/remodels/alterations valued at $20,000 or greater. (Smaller projects would Not need a permit, small decks, porches, remodels, additions etc…)
● All electrical services: Including new and upgrades/alterations
● Failure to call for Inspection – $100 each
● Double fees for all work started without permits
